TYPO3 4.3 Development status report of week 27/2008
*General*
At the T3DD08 the first alpha release of TYPO3 4.3 was scheduled to be
published on June 7th 2008. But as you might have noticed, there wasn't
such a release. The reason was that not that many big features entered
the development branch and thus a release is not justified at the
moment. The main focus is of course to have as much as possible of the
sponsored projects in a release.
TYPO3 4.3-alpha1 is adjourned to August 4th 2008 which will hopefully
contain the basic functionality of the planned big features. The updated
Roadmap [1] can be found on Forge.
*Sponsored projects*
The initial three sponsored projects have officially been announced by
the TYPO3 Association [2]. Funneling money to the developers will allow
them to spend more time working on the Core and will thus speed up the
development of TYPO3.
The first three projects that are up for sponsoring are:
* the new Installer which will provide new users with a smoother TYPO3
installation experience and enable experienced users to customise their
install tool.
* the new List module which aims to fully renew the old List module and
add some general new features (like drag & drop) that could be used
throughout the TYPO3 backend.
* the new FORM object that will provide enhanced form capabilities, a
user-friendly wizard and powerful built-in validation methods.
*Miscellaneous*
TYPO3 Core Member Benjamin Mack just started to work on a mass file
uploader for front-end and back-end disposal. This feature is based on
Flash to enable multiple files to be selected from local harddrive and
to be transferred to the storage server.
Thanks to AOE media [3], Wiesbaden/Germany for sponsoring the
development of this great enhancement.
In the last status report a meeting of the TYPO3v4 and TYPO3v5 teams was
mentioned. This session is planned to take place after the T3CON08 in
October 2008. The main goals are to outline ways to get the development
strands of v4 and v5 closer together and to possibly reuse concepts and
code (FLOW3, MVC and techniques in general).
