I guess similar things (and more of them) happen in Germany.

Anyways. I think such and other things were you will feel betrayed can 
happen when running a business. I for example had a customer which 
insisted of getting features implemented which were not part of our 
contract. But I think this is a quite common issue. He even threatened 
me with calling for lawyers and court ...
