I forgot...

You can upgrade to TYPO3 4.5 LTS (out of support unless you bought extended 
support) and from there to TYPO3 6.2 LTS.

Extended support was not purchased.. so does this mean I have to do a fresh install and then rebuild the website?

If so, can I do this in a separate directory and then point to it as "live" afterwards?
