[TYPO3-install] Image errors

Hello,

I installed the latest stable version of typo3 as I habe running a very old 
one. At the install tool I get the note that "combine" is not available. Ok, 
it is now called composite. I created a symlink but now images created for 
menus on the fly do not work

PHP Warning: imagecreate(): Invalid image dimensions in /home

What did I miss to setup or install?
