Versuch mal die Variablen manuell zu setzen.
Bei mir hat das geholfen.

Also
$dir = / ... /typo3/ext/direct_mail/mod/);
PATH_typo3 und PATH_site habe ich auch manuelle gesetzt.

Dann solltest du die erste Zeile überprüfen, ob die Angabe korrekt ist.


Wenn alles nichts hilft, mach ein PHP Skript draus und ruf das über 
einen Browser auf. In die CronTab kannst du das dann eintragen, indem du 
das von z.B. Lynx aufrufen läßt.
Ich hatte auch massive Probleme mit der Shell Variante. Die PHP Versioen 
ist da nicht ganz so anspruchsvoll.
