[TYPO3-english] How to call an action in background?

Greetings:

I wonder if it is posible to call an Action that run a process in background? I have to generate an excel report in my controller action but this process takes a lot of  time until the report is completed and the user have to wait on line for the report during 15 mins, that have no sense at all, I want to generate the report in background, and send an e-mail to the user with a download link.

Please let me know if it is possible with any module or extension of typo3. Or if I have to search for pure php options what is the best suitable for typo3 structure??
