I would suggest to uninstall all third party extensions, do the upgrade to 6.2 and then do the upgrade to 7.
After that install compatibility6 and after that update all your exts to the latest available versions (and do possible upgrades within the exts) and install them.

Then you can rewrite them step by step to be fully CMS 7 (and 8 ;-)) compatible.
