[TYPO3-english] preview for own FCEs?

You could take a look at 
typo3/sysext/frontend/Configuration/TCA/tt_content.php where the 'image' 
field is configured.
It calls a function to get the configuration of a file field and 
overrides certain parts of the configuration.

Perhaps this is enough inspiration to get the previews back.
