[TYPO3-english] Clearing cash makes server go down

Hi,

We have a rather large and complex installation of Typo3. Some 30000 
pages. Whenever we clear all cache or change a template the 
response-time goes up to several minutes. The log-file is flooded with 
User xxx has cleared the cache. I assume that the problem is related to 
rebuilding the cache, but response-times of 5 minutes is really not 
acceptable under any circumstanses.

Any thoughts, hints or suggestions are appreciated.
