I have found a solution for this. I had to change the plugin code to use new tables related to files in TYPO3 6.2. However do not found how to create categories via TYPO3 interface. Also found that how to create these categories. One can create new categories using List > Root page > Create new record and create categories which can be linked to any table. Its like inbuilt tagging system. Very good feature.
