Hmm, I see.

Another alternative might be the hook in the DatabaseRecordList class in 
the recordlist system extension:

$GLOBALS['TYPO3_CONF_VARS']['SC_OPTIONS']['typo3/class.db_list_extra.inc']['getTable']

You could manipulate the $fieldArray class property to fit your needs.
