this is one requirement for such a feature, you need a trustworthy
checksum for the comparison...
otherwise it is possible to modify an extension and build a new
checksum, and with the next update all is gone...

i think no, only if SOMEONE has build a checksum before modifying it...
but for non TER Extensions i don't see the reason, this can't be updated
and overwritten.
