[TYPO3-english] What is the proper upgrade procedure from 4.5.3 to 6.1 ?

You should first try to upgrade every extension you use to the latest
version that is supporting both TYPO3 4.5 and 6.1.

Then activate the deprecationLog (if you deactivated it), clear cache,
and crawl your website clicking around, you may see that this
deprecation logs fills up with deprecated calls by extensions that will
break after upgrade => fix those calls.

Only when your deprecation log is "clean", should you try to upgrade.

Then do a backup of your database, in case...

Only then you should change the sources of TYPO3 to use 6.1, go to the
install tool /typo3/install/ and follow the instructions of the upgrade
wizard.

Clear caches as usual, to be sure

After that, log into the Backend (which hopefully should "work" unless
you are using some incompatible extensions) and start fixing what is
breaking, if any.

Do the same for Frontend.
