Try setting $GLOBALS['TYPO3_CONF_VARS']['SYS']['displayErrors'] to "1"
in install tool. With this you might get the fatal error displayed.

Or if you can set php.ini values (e.g via .htaccess) try setting
'display_errors' [1] to "On".
