The possibility to differentiate file extension is done merely to support 
TXT and TS or whatever you choose. Nobody did this with a messed-up folder 
structure where you need to differentiate the files by extensions (a really 
error prone approach anyway - do not trust file extensions).

I do not think that you can convince many (tech) people.
