[TYPO3-english] recommendations for registration plugin

Hi,

I have a site with multiple extranet areas (=frontend user groups and 
frontend users).

Visitor can register and update his/her info. There are also custom 
fields in feusers table.

So, my question now is: what would you recommend for this registration 
feature? The site is 4.5 LTS and will be updated to 6.2 LTS when possible.

Now I have the sr_feuserregister but it seems a bit complicated with the 
custome fields + hooks + updates. Or is this just un-avoidable..?
