[TYPO3-english] links to generated image files - to inside extension Public folder or out: best practise?

If you generate images, they are not part of your extension, they may
even probably be regenerated on-the-fly. As such writing them to your
extension is not the good way. TYPO3 provides a typo3temp directory for
that purpose, just write to it, ideally within your own "extension"
directory:

typo3temp/tx_<yourext>/wathever/you/want
