[TYPO3-english] sysext 'filelinks' show no filelinks in frontend

Establishing a new website using typo3 ver 6.1.3 I have a problem withe sysext called filelinks. when I add a file, it simply does not show up in the frontend. What could the problem possibly be? I planned to use this sys ext heavily on this website, so please help.
