The traffic light is about the worst example of usage and meaning of 
shape and colour. Different countries use different light 
configurations. Some are vertical, some horizontal, most use three 
colours and the colours are not always in the same order.

For colour blind people (about 5% of the male population plus some 
females) only the order of the lights is available. If they drive in 
other countries they first have to look up the order of lights in that 
country.

Meaning should never, ever be communicated by colour only.

The pedestrian traffic lights in the Netherlands are way better. On top 
a red light with a standing figure and below a green light with a 
walking figure. Even without the colour the message is clear.

But this is not on the subject of the green in the logo. Despite the 
orange colour the monochromatic orange version still looks very clean to me.
