[TYPO3-english] file link menu, recommendations?

Hi,

Customers often want to have pdf files in menu links. Before TYPO3 4.6 this was easy for the editor to achieve as page type external url and just browse (with the element/link browser) the file in question to the address field.

For some reason the element browser is not there anymore in 4.6. So one has to write the address to the url field and this makes it too hard to use.

Do you have any recommendations how to make a file link menu now?

The goal is to have (this could all be done with the previous external url page type)
- nice names for the links (page title)
- easy linking
- perhaps with some description in menus (abstract field)
- reusable without copying and auto update of menus if link or title changes
