I would recommend to upgrade to 4.5 first and check the deprecation log.
4.6 removed a lot of deprecated API, which can break some of your
extensions.

You could skip 4.6 and then go to 4.7.

If you're lucky, 4.4->4.7 can work, but there's by far no guarantee.
