Not to advertise anything, but the extension t3adminer should be able to 
work with all databases which are supported by TYPO3 (MySQL, PostgreSQL, 
Oracle, MS SQL) and it should also automatically recognize the DBAL 
configuration and connect to that database. I haven't been able to test 
it on Oracle yet, so this would be a nice test.
If it works you can do your database manipulation from the TYPO3 backend.

Maybe Adminer can change the column type on the fly? Of course you 
should backup the data in case it needs to do something drastic without 
notifying you first.
