wrong statement. 
The function has been replaced a long time ago (3.8?) but was available 
in the old form and with 4.6 the old deprecated function [¹] finally has 
been removed (as some others)


[¹] since 4.4 all calls to GPvar() have been logged in deprecated log.
if everyone disables deprecated log and/or ignores any entries they will 
fail with 4.6, as then it will throw errors
