[TYPO3-english] Content gets shortened when saved

Hi all,

we encountered a strange problem in a TYPO3 4.3.3 installation (and 
prior versions of the 4.3 branch as well):

Sometimes when an editor saves a content element, the content in the 
bodytext field or in the title text of an image gets shortened (usually 
by around 29 characters). This shortened content is then saved in the 
database.

There is no error message. The texts do not contain any special 
characters, except German umlauts. Languages are German and English. RTE 
is not used. Character set is UTF-8. The editors have the right to edit 
and save text elements.
The problem does occur in just one TYPO3 system, other 4.3.x 
installations do work just fine as usual.

Has anybody seen this behaviour yet? Any hints are much appreciated.
