I returned to this today. I rechecked everything against the manual, 
carefully checking for typos or overlooked steps.

I could find nothing wrong.

Even so I tried running it just to confirm that it still didn't work. It 
worked... So nothing changed, but it worked today!

Maybe there were some sunspots last week, or something :)
