[TYPO3-english] Retrieving value of $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] using TypoScript?

Hi TS experts!

I'm in a situation where a whole bunch of issues would be solved if I 
could only retrieve the value of $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] using TS. I've 
seen the IENV:REQUEST_URI mentioned in the docs, but this seems only to 
be for use in conditionals. Is there a way of obtaining this data?
