[TYPO3-english] php 5.1 support in 4.2 branch

The current release of 4.2 uses filter_var(), which breaks TYPO3 with PHP  
5.1 [1]

This has been fixed in SVN, but not released, yet - which is really  
overdue.
Target is to stay 5.1 compatible for 4.2.
