[TYPO3-english] Character encoding DAM and Typo3 4.2 after Upgrade - UTF 8

Hi,

recently I updated our Typo3 Installation (LAMP) from Typo3 4.1.x to
4.2.x and php 5.1.x to 5.2.x. Apache httpd is still 2.0.52.

After the upgrade all FE Text with german umlauts was messed up/broken,
so I got the advice, to change the character set for typo3 and the
mysql-database from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8.

The httpd DefaultCharset has been UTF-8.

Now all FE elements are rendered as before and aren't broken anymore.

But:

All DAM files with german umlauts in the filemname show up with an "?"
in place of the umlaut in the BE. They can't be indexed any more.

Files I upload after the upgrade do have the umlaut in the name and can
be indexed.

What may I check and update?

Thanks for any suggestion.

Best regards
