It also makes a difference when you use access restriction in the 
subpages (logged in users, start/stop date, etc).

If the first page is only accessible by logged in users and you set the 
shortcut mode to "First subpage" it will automatically go to the second 
page and so on.

If you set the shortcut directly to the first (access restricted) page 
the shortcut just won't show in the menu and if you access it directly 
it will give an error.
