I fear the problem would be to support the many different platforms out there and keep this "trick" up to date.

What about trying to create yourself this "translator"? Or at least starting to gather how the link looks like for the different platforms (as said before: clipfish, vimeo, youtube, dailymotion, ...). 
Perhaps the translator could be quite generic and for example be integrated as an additional extension?
