[TYPO3-english] Templavoila and 4.3 menu problem

Hi,
I just updated a site from 4.2 to 4.3 and updated TemplaVoila to 1.4.1. I then wanted to create a new template for the site and did so, mapping everything and setting up the TS in the template. 

My problem now is that the menu is rendering as the following:

html characters are being generated for < and "

I am pretty sure this has to do with the encoding but I have not been able to track the issue down yet.

Has anyone had this issue or a suggestion where I can start to look?
