I personally prefer only using the reply button when I really want to
reply to something the recipient wrote, when I want to have a new e-mail
to him I use the new mail button --> because I use the thread feature of
my mail client not only for mailing lists but for all mails as it sorts
them nicely.

I personally dislike forums a lot. I have to open my webbrowser to go
there and I can't change them to display like I want to.
For the second part of the statement: You do know what the difference
between a mailing list and a newsgroup is and that you can use the
newsgroup like a forum (not getting all messages but just those of the
threads that interest you separated from your normal mails)?

Here again I have the impression that you entirely mix newsgroups and
mailing lists which are different things. And - sorry - but your first
sentence in this part is true for forums, too.

I won't and I guess that's what this is all about at last: personal
preferences. And as to forums there is at least one good german TYPO3
forum I know on typo3.net and a lot more I have heard of, perhaps these
are sufficient for you?
