Thanks Xavier,

Indeed this is sr_feuser_register from two well-known developers, sorry
for being imprecise.

I wrote this in the Typo3 setup:

    config.sys_language_uid = 0
    config.language =
    config.locale_all = en_GB.utf8
    config.typolinkLinkAccessRestrictedPages = NONE;

but to no avail, I still get the very same thing:

    Forgot your password?
    ###LABEL_CLICK_HERE_TO_REGISTER###

The first label is fetched, and I verified that this label is not in
locallang.xml, so it seems that locallang.xml is not fetched.

I checked other plugins. In Mailform Plus, you can specifically call (or
  edit and place somewhere) for this file with
    .langFile = fileadmin/template...

I looked in the Extension Manager and found this shy extension: System
language labels. It says:

    A difference between the originally installed version and the current
    was detected!
      Modified files:
      locallang_core.xml
      locallang_mod_help_about.xml
      locallang_tca.xml

Could it have something to do with it?

Since I don't need other languages, in last resort, I am thinking of
simpling editing the templates itself to get the right labels...

Thanks,
Denis
