Yes, but we must look at it from global perspective, don't care only for
major search engines supporting sitemaps.org protocol. 

Don't forget about small engines and all old INCOMING links pointing to
your old "ugly" pages and in this case it's clean TRANFER of pagerank to
pages with new URIs. ...and this is all about redirects.
