[TYPO3] Frontend User Registration problems - sr_feuser_register

Hi peeps,

I'm sure that this was working yesterday.

I'm trying to setup the required fields using 
plugin.tx_srfeuserregister_pi1.requiredFields

The fields are appearing in the FE but they aren't showing as required
fields :?

I have tried unloading extensions installed after sr_feuser_register was
installed, using the default template, and I have disabled
simulateStaticDocuments. None of these have solved the problem :(

The other problem is field validation: I have set up a new column in the
fe_users table (by using kickstarter to create a small extension), which
is a float. This field seems like it's not being validated as a float
though - do I have to do this validation manually?
