[TYPO3] Extension with a directory in uploads folder

My guess is that you have a field in the database for images or file uploads?
TYPO3 has the great annoyance of creating copies of all files instead of referencing them.

Hallo,

I have created several extension now using the kickstarter.

Some seem to have a directory in the uploads folder, others do not. What I
want to know is, what exactly have I done in the kickstarter so that some of
the extensions have a directory? Was it the using creating static
typoscript?
