[TYPO3] Need help to set up website languages

It seems that I'm almost at the same point. 

My primary site is in english. I managed to add French language, added a
couple of translations. Now if I want to look at the french translation, I
click on the magnifying glass (I'm really good at that), I can see that the
L variable is added in the URL:

index.php?id=12&L=0 in English, and
index.php?id=12&L=2 in French

but I always see the English translation of the page, as if no French
translation existed. I'm pretty sure this is quite simple to fix, but I
Googled on this one, but didn't find anything relevant to fix this.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
