[TYPO3] Is it possible to install extensions manually, bypassing the EM?

Well this may be true... but always it is only the EM function that 
exhibits this problem. Has the memory requirement for EM decreased at 
all in 4.2? Personally, I've taken to using the "rscliem" extension for 
keeping the local extension list updated, and it never has a problem 
with running out of memory. Sadly, it doesn't support installing 
extensions, but maybe with enough demand we could get someone to write 
that part too... ;-)

It's easy to say that we should just increase memory footprint -- heck, 
Microsoft's been doing that to us for decades -- but since this is 
isolated to one feature, I wonder if the issue isn't the feature and not 
the environment as a whole.
