[TYPO3] integrate typo3 login with a web interface

Hi list,
I need to implement a web interface to populate a database.

To use this tool you formerly must log in. My target is to provide an 
authentication system for this interface and typo3.
So, if a user is logged in typo3 can directly access the interface and 
viceversa.
Is it possible? Shall I set cookies? Which one?
