[TYPO3] RTEmagic images stored with wrong MIME type

Hi list,

Does anyone know where Typo3/rtehtmlarea creates the RTEmagic images in
the 'uploads' folder?

I have a problem, where JPG images are rendered unreadable and stored as
text files (file type: "UTF-8 Unicode English text" instead of "JPEG
image data").

On a similar server it all works fine. Also, the problem occurs only
with particular images, others work fine.

In detail:

1) I copy/paste directly from another website into the editor, all
together: text, images, links etc.

2) obviously the images are then copied into the 'uploads' folder
Usually that should work fine.

3) but on this one server, they are saved with the wrong file type
When I check the file type with the command "type", I see that the JPGs
are saved with the type
"UTF-8 Unicode English text, with very long lines, with CRLF, LF line
terminators" instead of "JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.02"

4) even more confusing is that on the test server it works fine. Both
with an identical setup (Redhat, ImageMagick 6.0.7, Typo3 4.1.1).

Unfortunately I can't send through any links, because both servers are
in an intranet.

Has anyone any idea?

many thanks,
Bernie
