[TYPO3] Is it possible to select author of a page of of a content element in BE?

Hello,
on one of my websites (Typo3 4.0.5, without TemplaVoila) I need to be
able to select or fill in the author of Pages or better yet Content
Elements (type: text).
Extension tt_news at least provides a field where I can fill in the name
and surname of the author. Why don't Content Element have this
functionality?

To clarify my need, it would be ideal if I could select or fill in the
name and surname of the author (from BE users) for every "Text" Content
element, just like I'm able to select the date of every Content Element
in the "Header" section.
Is it possible to somehow add another field in the Header section (now
there are: Align, Type, Link, Date), where I could select the author
from BE users (or just type in some name)?

Would it be easier to provide this field for Pages? The "pages" table in
the database already has "author" column, but how can I populate this
field during creation of Content elements or Pages in my Pagetree?
Manually editing the database tables with phpMyAdmin is definitely not
an option.

I have found two Extensions that tackle with this problem
(cron_setdefaultauthor and fhm_author), but both just automatically
insert currently logged-in BE user in author column of "pages" table
(well, even this is not quite true - extension cron_setdefaultauthor
doesn't work at all on my system).

It is very strange to me that Typo3 BE interface doesn't provide a field
to equip our articles with author name (go open some newspaper or a
magazine - every serious article has the name of author).

Thanks for any info,
Tadej Bregar
