[TYPO3] Is htmlArea dead?

We have TinyMCE and FCKEditor as candidates so far... Any others?

I'm willing to donate my time and coding effort in an attempt to create
a much nicer editor for Typo3 to use. I have played with the existing
TinyRTE extension and it looks very promising - just needs some
polishing around the edges.

One thing that I really do not like about TinyMCE though is the fact
that styles you define are available for all elements - meaning that you
cannot specify specific styles for specific tags.

I agree that it is a project for the 5.0 team, however based on the
problems I have been fighting with htmlArea lately (losing divs, using
arrow keys results in lost cursor, and no source formatting - grr!) I
feel that now is the time for Typo3 to step up to the plate. I hate to
use these words on this message board, but I'm afraid that other
projects like Drupal or Joomla may be the doom of Typo3 unless Typo3 can
keep up functionality wise - starting with the most basic elements of
all - the RTE.
