Hi Rob.
As TSRef correctly states, you can use tables prefixed with "fe_", just like 
the "fe_users" table ;D

Here's an example I wrote a while ago, to access various fe_user/fe_group 
fields from TypoScript.
(The example uses date from the FE user the currently logged in, but you 
should be able to adapt it to your use, specially the fe_group part in .200)
