[TYPO3] Configuring TYPO3SEARCH

I am trying to configure the built in TYPO3SEARCH but cannot seem to find 
anywhere to do so.

Is this a non-configurable part of Typo3?

I need to edit it to display in two languages (depending on the localisation) 
and stop it from displaying "csc-searchResultHeader" in the results.

Should I just give up and use an extension? If so can anyone recommend a good 
search facility which is configurable to frontend localisation?
