[TYPO3] ImageMagick Configuration

I have not read what you posted before, anyway:
I'd guess your problem is a version thing, for among other things 
masking is treated differently in differen ImageMagick versions that 
could explain both of your your strange results. In the 
Installationtool, you can set some preferences for ImageMagick, 
including which version you use - you may have to set this manually. You 
find these values best in "all configuration". I know, there is a lot, 
but just keep looking for "[im_version_5]" and the following.
(To check which Version you actually use, look in "Basic Configuration")
