[TYPO3] Independent horizontal and a vertical menu

Hi there,

I've got a horizontal and a vertical menu which are independent of each 
other. They are two branches in the page tree:

root
│
├─horizontal menu
│ ├─subpage 1
│ ├─subpage 2
│ └─subpage 3
│
└─vertical menu
   ├─subpage 1
   ├─subpage 2
   └─subpage 3


I could of course do it with HMENU.special=list, but this is not 
flexible enough if the editor will add a new subpage to either of the menus.

Any pointers to a simple solution (no iproc, please!) would be very much 
appreciated.
