[TYPO3] EXT Manager fails to connect

I'm having a problem with the new version of TYPO3 (4.0.4). I managed to get the base package installed, but when I attempt to connect to the ext repository, it connects to the server for a little bit, then dumps me right back to the page I was at. "Retrieve/Update" gives me nothing, but updates the respository date/time.

"Look up" gets me the same thing, but with this message: "Error in XML parser while decoding extensions XML file. Line 2: syntax error"

What do I need to do to get my extensions? TYPO3 is worthless without them!
