[TYPO3] Select Record ID according to URL subfolder

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can advise of where I should start here.

I have a user with a travel information site who wants to be able to allow
other travel advisors to make use of their site content.  So for example,
http://www.domainname.com/ is obviously the top site but users will be
able to advertise as http://www.domainname.com/site1/

The subfolder /site1/ will provide exactly the same content except for the
contact record which will show the individuals own information.

I plan to have one contact page and a list of records which hold the
individual address records.

My question is how do I tell typo3 to select the record id based on the
subfolder entered in the address bar?  I'm not looking for the whole
answer - I'm honestly not that lazy :-) I just want to know where to start
looking.  The site currently uses the realurl plugin.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
