[TYPO3] after php5 upgrade - error when edit attempted

After I just upgraded php5 I get an error when attenpting to 
edit in the content section. The right side where the content items
appear goes white when I click on the pencil icon. The error is 
the "The page cannot be displayed" white screen. Checking the 
apache error log I see;

[notice] child pid 32696 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

I am using FreeBSD 4.11 with apache2 and php5.

Any pointers would be appreciated.
