[TYPO3] indexing is not working.

Update... still not working.
I've tried adding
config.index_enable = 1
to pages, i've also tried
page.config.index_enable = 1
- no change. I've also seen mentioned that pages need to be cached in
order to be indexed. As far as I can tell all pages are being cached - but
how can I check this?
